What do people forget to buy for a backyard party?
Most hosts remember the main event: the food for the grill and the drinks. It is the supporting cast that slips through.
- Ice. For drinks and for the cooler. Most parties run out.
- Mix. Pop, soda water, tonic and juice for anyone making a drink.
- Non-alcoholic drinks. Sparkling water, pop and something fun for kids and drivers.
- Water. Especially on a hot day.
- Condiments. Ketchup, mustard, relish and the burger buns that somehow never make the list.
- Plates, cups, napkins and cutlery. Plus garbage bags for cleanup.
- Lighting. A working bulb in the porch or patio light for when the sun goes down.
- Bug spray and sunscreen. Small, but missed.
- A bottle opener. Someone always asks.

- List each store and what you need from it.
- Be specific with sizes. “Two 2 litre bottles of soda water” is clearer than “soda water”.
- Choose a substitution preference: Call me, Closest match, or Skip it. Mid-party, Closest match often keeps things moving.
- Choose As soon as possible.

How do I plan so I forget less?
A few habits help every host:
- Write the list by category: food, drinks, ice, paper goods, lighting, cleanup.
- Plan for more guests than you invited. Plus-ones happen.
- Schedule a delivery for the morning of. Use Schedule a time on the order form and let us handle the drinks and ice while you prep food.
- Plan for the end of the night. Have plenty of water and non-alcoholic options out, and if anyone has been drinking, stay home, we’ll drive.
